What is "NEX-GEN" US Paper Money?

"Greenbacks" US Paper MoneyThe New, "NexGen" paper money is the BEP's (Bureau of Printing and Engraving) term for the newest redesign of US currency. The term NexGen is actually short for "Next Generation". The US Government is always trying to counteract the growing number of counterfeiters which have been persistently duplicating US Notes.

What do the new Notes look like?

New Colored US MoneyThe NexGen Notes are now available and described in full detail. All that was told to collectors previously was the new notes will bear color in the background in order to identify the various denominations. Other than that, specifications on the Nex-Gen Notes had been Very Secret. We now know what the notes look like, See the image on the left. It was announced that all existing anti-counterfeiting features will remain intact such as; portrait watermarks, optically variable inks that change colors when tilted, security threads embedded in the paper, offset images, and microprinting. Imagine ... This may be the end of the "greenback".

When will NexGen notes circulate?

The release date was october 2003 ... just keep your eyes peeled. It was also mentioned that each redesigned currency note would be unveiled approximately 6-9 months prior to the release date. The Twenty will be followed by the Fifty (now released) and then the ten, followed by the One Hundred, apparently no redesign will be created for the Two, Five or the One dollar bill. Certain Areas will not see these notes for some time.

Will the older notes be valuable?

US paper money has been RED HOT among collectors in the past few years. The collector base has grown substantially which will add to the momentum. We believe that the change in United States currency will welcome even More collectors. We feel that the potential of paper money as an investment will be explosive over the next decade!

According to the BEP, the New Colored Money was released to the Federal Reserve Banks in the November of 2004.
