Delaware State QuarterThe Delaware Quarter is the first of the 50 States Commemorative Quarters released by the U.S. Mint. To the left is the image placed on the back of the coin. According to the U.S. Mint's official website, the final design selection, depicting Caesar Rodney on horseback, received 948 of the 1,519 total votes. Caesar Rodney is honored for his historic ride to break the tie among Delaware's delegates in favor of the Declaration of Independence. The Delaware choice for their quarter coin design was made public on Friday, June 12, 1998, at a press briefing held in Dover, Delaware.
