Due to the overwhelming number of Emails from people regarding the infamous "State Quarter Recall Rumor" and "U.S. Mint Quarter Errors" , I have put this page up specifically to respond to these questions. For those unaware, rumors have been circulating that many of the New 50 State commemorative quarters have been recalled by the U.S. Mint due to imperfect conditions of the coins. THIS IS FALSE! ... But, coin errors DO Exist and sometimes can command Premiums!

Such imperfections may consist of:

  • Poor centering of Image on the Back of the Quarter.

  • Disproportional thickness of the coins
  • Upside down Printing on Back of coins.
  • Improper weight specifications
  • Blank Printed or "planchette" quarters
  • Other various discrepancies

According to sources, a number of banks have reported quarter rolls having a significant decrease in thickness. Selected banks use machines which determine the value of a quantity of quarters according to thickness of the rolls, which accounts for Counting Errors.

Also, selected vending machine manufacturers and owners have reported that many of the new quarters do not work in their machines. The fact that these quarters exhibit decreased thickness and lower weight, contribute to this problem.

Various State Media and collectors have reported Minting errors of these quarters. See the pictures on this page as examples.

One HUGE rumer is in regards to the "First Flight" motif on the North Carolina Quarter, YES... it is designed the way that it was intended, and as it reads above.

Many of these quarters are less than perfect, and many of them are HIGHLY COLLECTABLE! Check back for updates!

We have personally received inquiries regarding the WORTH OF QUARTERS obtained in circulation which have been minted off-centered, or imperfect in some way. We DO NOT give Email quotes. We are not appraisers, and do not buy such items unless you are willing to Mail them to us. We suggest putting them up at auction on coin related auction sites.
